Expert in AI
or a related technology?

Share your expertise and train the professionals and researchers of tomorrow

Do you have expertise in AI, or a related technology such as machine learning or data science? Are you a researcher, PhD, research assistant, lector, postdoc…Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge? Are you looking for valuable teaching experience? Help us create future-proof professionals and researchers.

Be part of our expert team and create the professionals and researchers of tomorrow. We are looking for every PhD, postdoc or lector who has expertise in (an aspect) of AI and likes to share his/her expertise.
You can contribute even with limited time commitment, e.g.

  • 20 minutes of explanation about your research case
  • 2 hours of teaching about something you already teach or know very well
  • some slides on your research topic.

Courses in development

Provide us with your contact details and we will connect with you later to join our teaching crews and/or editorial team. Obviously, we will not use your contact details for any other purpose than stated here.

We are looking for experts in these courses:

In our basic coursse on AI we want to give a first practical experience with AI, positioning it between inspiration and classic extensive training courses.

We organize the courses around three specific topics at two different levels:

  1. Artficial Intelligence (AI)
  2. Machine Learning (ML)
  3. Data Science (DS)

Level 1: ‘Let’s get started with AI/ML/DS’

In the courses ‘Starting with Artificial Intelligence’, ‘Starting with Machine Learning’ and ‘Starting with Data Science’, participants receive theory and hands-on exercises in approximately 1 day, possibly supplemented with some self-study and a small test. This short course is very accessible and requires a limited amount of time. It must be able to appeal to a wide audience, but goes beyond inspiring. It should function as a springboard to access more comprehensive training.

Level 2: ‘Core AI/ML/DS’

After a participant has made the initial jump, a broader introduction is offered, going in-depth. Yet, this training is substantially shorter than a postgraduate degree. This ‘Core AI’, ‘Core ML’, and ‘Core DS’ comprises approximately 4-5 days of lessons with possible self-study, of which the hands-on experience is key. After this training, participants can continue with self-study, more long-term training, or on-the-job training.

For who?

The target audience of our basic AI course consists of adults who already know what AI is, are motivated to go along with it and would like to take their first steps.

The requirements for previous knowledge will depend on the exact content of the course, which we will determine together with the teachers.

Huge amounts of data are available for biomedical research today. These data arise in different forms like images, omics-data, electronic medical files, etc. Machine Learning algorithms can help researchers find patterns, classify the data, or help make well-founded data-embedded decisions. Typical examples are the analysis of CT-scans for cancer diagnoses or finding a proper treatment for MS patients.

Taking into account the potential of these techniques, the Flemish AI Academy is developing a courseIntroduction to AI and Machine learning in a Biomedical Context‘.

This course aims to familiarize researchers in biomedicine with the basic concepts of machine learning, provide some insight into current biomedical research topics where these techniques are being applied, and create awareness of some concerns when applying these techniques in research. Since this is an introductory course, no prior knowledge in AI/ML is expected from participants!

Sections of the course:

  1. five modules (basics of machine learning, supervised learning, unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning, deep learning and neural networks). Here the theoretical concepts will be addressed with some relevant examples. Total 9h course approx.
  2. two modules of about 2 hours each where several use cases/practical examples are presented in 20min. The module can be ended with a question round/panel discussion with the speakers. Total of 10 practical examples presented (5 cases per module).
  3. one module about Ethics and Data management which are necessary skills in an AI-project.

See preliminary course page

The course starts in October 2021.

How can you help with this course:

The Flemish AI Academy is searching for speakers for module 2! The aim is to present your research and discuss the application of AI in an easily accessible way to a very interested young public during 15-20 minutes. Timing: November 2021, exact time TBD.

We are working on a training where we will address how wearables, apps and AI can be used to support the health sector. Our primary goal is to give a seminar to general practitioners, but in the future we want to extend this training or seminar series and target healthcare providers in general. To this end we are creating an overview of which wearables and healthcare apps are currently used in the FLAIR program.

Are you using apps and wearables in your research to support healthcare providers? Let us know so we can create an overview and see how we can fit your research in this training!

Starting next year we will start an inspirational seminar series on AI, showcasing examples and insights in AI originating in our extensive network. It is our goal to inspire and attract new people to the world of AI.

These seminars are short (1 hour max.), free and broadcasted to a wide audience, online or in a hybrid format. They will take place weekly on Tuesdays at noon.

We will follow 4 tracks:

  1. Inspirational track – big speakers, big insights
  2. Scientific track – researchers explain about their latest developments in AI
  3. Industry track – inspiring examples out of industry, small and large
  4. Policy track – insights and developments in the legal, ethical and policy aspects of AI

Would you like to share your insights with a wide and open audience in a short amount of time? Are you an inspirational speaker? Leave us your details!

These courses are also underway and can use your expertise. A summary will follow shortly:

  • Adversarial Machine Learning
  • AI & Cultural Heritage
  • General Practitioners: Buzzwords
  • AI for Occupational Heatlh & Safety
  • Explainable & Trustworthy AI
  • AI in the pharma sector
  • RPA for Local Governments
  • Fairness & Bias in NLP

Is your research exciting and interesting but in another domain? Do not hesitate to add your own expertise and we will evaluate whether and how we can fit it into one of our courses. Ideas about new trainings and new audiences are also very welcome. So don’t hesitate to contact us and ask questions, supply ideas or inspire us!
